Importance and distribution

Industrial relevance and applications

Vaginatispora is useful for pharmaceutical industry as V. aquatica produces antibacterial polyketide Oxasetin (He et al. 2002). There are nine Vaginatispora epithets in Index Fungorum (2022) but V. fuckelii has been transferred to Neovaginatispora. Vaginatispora comprises eight species known on four host plants Aegiceras corniculatum (Primulaceae), Amygdalus persica (Rosaceae), Nypa fruticans (Arecaceae) and Rhizophora mucronata (Rhizophoraceae). Vaginatispora is distributed in Asia (Andaman Island, India (Tamil Nadu), Japan, Thailand) and Australia.
