Importance and distribution

Species of Janetia are associated with leaf spots. There are 22 Janetia epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but eight species have been transferred to other genera such as Bactrodesmiastrum, Linkosia, Pithomyces, Sporidesmium and Stanjehughesia. Janetia comprises 14 species known on a wide range of hosts including Acacia melanoxylon (Fabaceae), Alseuosmia macrophylla (Alseuosmiaceae), Coprosma tenuifolia (Rubiaceae), Gleichenia cunninghami (Gleicheniaceae), Hebe stricta var. egmontiana (Plantaginaceae), Leptospermum ericoides (Myrtaceae), Melicope simplex (Rutaceae), Myrsine australis (Myrsinaceae), Neomyrtus pedunculata (Myrtaceae), Neopanax arboreus (Araliaceae), Nothofagus sp. (Nothofagaceae), Shawia paniculata (Asteraceae) and Torreya californica (Taxaceae). Janetia has a wide distribution including Asia (China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Taiwan), Australia, Caribbean (Cuba), Europe (Spain), New Zealand and South America (Brazil). An attempt to re-collect more taxa of Janetia must be done to provide sequence data for this genus.
