Importance and distribution

Hawksworthiana species are lichenicolous and form obligate associations with lichens as saprobes that settle on dead lichen thalli, or parasites that acquire fixed carbon and nutrients from living lichen hosts (Lawrey and Diederich 2003). Hawksworthiana comprises only one species known on thallus of Peltigera polydactyla (Peltigeraceae) in the United Kingdom. An attempt to recollect Hawksworthiana is needed to understand the diversity and taxonomy of the genus.
