Importance and distribution
Cystocoleus lives on lichens as a host-specific parasite (Hawksworth et al. 2011). There are three epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but one species has been transferred to Rhacodiopsis and Cystocoleus nigra has been synonymized under C. ebeneus (Hawksworth et al. 2011). Cystocoleus has been reported from Asia (China, Russia), Europe (Austria, Italy, Sweden, United Kingdom).
