Importance and distribution

Muyocopron laterale produces Azaphilones which has wide range of biological activities, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral and anti-inflammatory activities (Nakashima et al. 2020; Chen et al. 2020; Yuan et al. 2021). Nakashima et al. (2020) reported Muyocopronones A and B which are azaphilones from endophytic Muyocopron laterale. Yuan et al. (2021) reported Azaphilone Muyophilone A from endophytic Muyocopron laterale 0307-2. Muyocopron comprises 48 species known on wide range of plants such as Abrus precatorius (Fabaceae), Akebia sp. (Lardizabalaceae), Ananas sativus (Bromeliaceae), Apios tuberosa (Fabaceae), Bougainvillea sp. (Nyctaginaceae), Cassia chamaecrista (Fabaceae), Cunninghamia lanceolata (Cupressaceae), Desmodium canadense (Fabaceae), Dianella revoluta (Asphodelaceae), Ixora parviflora (Rubiaceae), Lespedeza frutescens (Fabaceae) and Smilax aspera (Smilacaceae). Muyocopron is reported from Asia (China, India, Malaysia), Australia, Europe (Portugal and Spain), South America (Brazil) and The United States (Georgia, Florida).
