Importance and distribution

There are 26 Montagnella epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Camarotella, Campoa, Clithris, Coccoidella, Dothidella, Elmerococcum, Gibbera, Gibberidea, Gillotia, Phyllachora, Rehmiodothis, Syncarpella and Telimena. Montagnella comprises nine species known on several host plants such as Acer spicatum (Sapindaceae), Aloe sp. (Asphodelaceae), Aster falcatus (Asteraceae), Berberis vulgaris (Berberidaceae), Colletia spinosa (Rhamnaceae), Drimys chilensis (Winteraceae), Helianthus angustifolius (Asteraceae), Maytenus magellanica (Celastraceae), Mertensia cryptocarpa (Gleicheniaceae) and Oplismenus sp. (Poaceae). Montagnella is reported from Africa (Zimbabwe), Europe (Portugal), North America (Canada, the United States) and South America (Brazil, Chile).
