Importance and distribution
There are 36 Trichothyrium epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Microthyrium, Stomiopeltis, Trichothyrina and Trichothyriomyces. Trichothyrium species are hyper parasitic on other fungi. Trichothyrium comprises 25 species recorded on plants such as Cinnamomum inunctum (Lauraceae), Cyathodes fasciculata (Ericaceae), Ficus sp. (Moraceae), Griselinia lucida (Griseliniaceae), Irenina sp. (Sapindaceae), Irenopsis sp. (Meliolaceae), Jasminum sp. (Oleaceae), Meliola danielliae (Meliolaceae), Panicum nodosum (Poaceae), Piper aduncum (Piperaceae), Psidium pomiferum (Myrtaceae) and Quintinia serrata (Paracryphiaceae). Trichothyrium is reported from Africa (Ghana, Guinea, Uganda), Asia (Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines), Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago), Oceania (Australia, New Zealand), South America (Brazil, Chile, Venezuela) and The United States (Virgin Islands).
