Importance and distribution

Although there are six Columnosphaeria epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), two species, C. fulvida and C. miribelii have been transferred to Guignardia. Columnosphaeria comprises four saprobic species. Columnosphaeria boltoniae is known on dead stem of Boltonia diffusa (Asteraceae) in The United States (Oklahoma). Columnosphaeria euganea is reported on dead branches of Spartium junceum (Fabaceae) in Europe (Italy). Columnosphaeria fagi is known on dead leaves of Fagus sylvatica (Fabaceae) in United Kingdom. Columnosphaeria sarothamni has been reported on Sarothamnus scoparius (Fabaceae) in Europe (Denmark).
