Importance and distribution

Hyphosoma species are saprobic. Hyphosoma comprises six species found on eight host plants in six plant families namely Abies amabilis (Pinaceae), Aster argophyllus (Asteraceae), Juniperus occidentalis (Cupressaceae), Larix occidentalis (Pinaceae), Nothofagus fusca (Nothofagaceae), Pseudotsuga menziesii (Pinaceae), Sorbus aucuparia (Rosaceae) and Vaccinium sp. (Ericaceae). Hyphosoma is reported from Europe (Norway, United Kingdom), New Zealand and the United States (Washington). One species Hyphosoma lumbricoideum was synonymized and transferred to Antennatula.
