Importance and role

Importance of genus to ecosystem

Species of Plokamidomyces are pathogenic and may produce sooty mold disease, blotch and flyspeck, on fruit plants and other hosts (Hughes 1972)

Industrial relevance and applications

No industrial use of Plokamidomyces have been reported.

Quarantine significance

No biocontrol agent from Plokamidomyces has been investigated.

Biochemical importance of the genus, chemical diversity or applications

The chemical diversity of Plokamidomyces is unknown. Fresh cultures are needed for further study.

Diversity of the genus

Plokamidomyces comprises only one species known on leaves of Olearia colorata (Asteraceae) in New Zealand. Plokamidomyces is a poorly studied genus and more species need to be discovered from comprehensive studies.
