Importance and distribution
Ten species are accepted in Melanographa namely the lichenicolous Melanographa lentiginosa and M. tribuloides and the corticolous, saprobic species M. chionographa, (M. diplasiospora, M. hysteriospora, M. interalbicans, M. leucina, M. microcarpa, M. microphlebia and M. oulocheila) but none have molecular data. Melanographa tribuloides is reported on Anthracothecium and Pyrenula not causing harm to the host while M. tribuloides is known from Asia (Papua New Guinea) and the United States (Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina).
