Importance and distribution

There are 45 Protoventuria epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Antennularia, Gaillardiella, Gibbera, Metacapnodium, Periline and Venturia. Protoventuria comprises 19 species known on Cercocarpus ledifolius (Rosaceae), Ctenidium molluscum (Hypnaceae), Erica tetralix (Ericaceae), Ericinella mannii (Ericaceae), Juniperus sibirica (Cupressaceae), leaves and branches of Ledum groenlandicum (Ericaceae), Rhododendron albiflorum (Ericaceae) and Vaccinium macrocarpon (Ericaceae). Protoventuria is reported from Africa (Tanzania), Asia (Kazakhstan), Australia (New South Wales), Europe (Sweden, France) and North America (Canada, Caribbean (Jamaica), the United States).
