Index Fungorum number: IF 563847; Facesoffungi number: FoF 06360, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.
Asexual morphic fungi. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies on the natural substratum effuse, hairy, brown to dark brown. Mycelium superficial and immersed. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, erect, smooth or verruculose, brown to dark brown. Conidiogenous cells polyblastic, integrated, sympodial, flattened, indeterminate. Conidial secession schizolytic. Conidia solitary, tightly coiled in three dimensions, doliiform to conical, multi-euseptate, acrogenous to acropleurogenous, brown to dark brown or olivaceous, smooth or verrucose (adapted from Castañeda et al. 2013).
Type species: Magnohelicospora iberica R.F. Castañeda, Hern. -Restr., Gené & Guarro
Notes: Magnohelicospora is characterised by superficial and immersed mycelium, macronematous, mononematous, erect, smooth or verruculose conidiophores, schizolytic conidial secession and solitary, tightly coiled doliiform to conical conidia. Magnohelicospora is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and well-defined genus in Venturiaceae. Molecular markers available for Magnohelicospora are ITS, LSU and SSU.
