Verruconis

Verruconis Samerp., H.J. Choi, van den Ende, Horré & de Hoog, in Samerpitak et al., Fungal Diversity 65: 117 (2014).

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies slow growing, olivaceous brown. Conidiophores absent. Conidiogenous cells erect, pale brown, sparsely septate, in the apical part with scattered denticles. Conidia produced sympodially, two-celled, verrucose to almost smooth-walled, clavate to cylindrical, liberated rhexolytically (adapted from Samerpitak et al. 2014).

Type species: Verruconis gallopava (W.B. Cooke) Samerpitak & de Hoog

Notes: Verruconis is characterised by olivaceous brown colonies, pale brown conidiogenous cells, and two-celled, verrucose to smooth-walled conidia. Phylogenetically, Verruconis is a distinct and well-supported genus in Sympoventuriaceae. Molecular markers available for Verruconis include ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
