Sympoventuria Crous & Seifert, in Crous et al., Fungal Diversity 25: 31 (2007).

Index Fungorum number: IF 501002; Facesoffungi number: FoF 06347, 4 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 4 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on leaf litter. Sexual morph: Ascomata pseudothecial, subglobose, immersed, black, inconspicuous, papillate, ostiolate. Asci hyaline, subcylindrical, stipitate, 8-spored. Pseudoparaphyses hyaline, septate, constricted at septa, anastomosing, extending above the asci. Ascospores hyaline, fusoid-ellipsoidal, constricted at median septum. Asexual morph: Forming a Sympodiella-like asexual morph in culture (adapted from Crous et al. 2007).

Type species: Sympoventuria capensis Crous & Seifert

Notes: Sympoventuria resembles Sympodiella/Parasympodiella complex in having conidia in unbranched acropetal chains, cylindrical with truncate ends. Sympoventuria can be differentiated from Parasympodiella based on DNA sequence data. Molecular markers available for Sympoventuria are ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
