Pseudoanungitea

Pseudoanungitea Crous, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 1: 199 (2018).

Index Fungorum number: IF 824789; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08833, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium consisting of branched, septate, brown, smooth, 2–3 mm diam hyphae. Conidiophores solitary, erect, septate, subcylindrical, brown, smooth, straight to flexuous. Conidiogenous cells terminal and intercalary, subcylindrical to clavate; scars arranged in a rachis, prominent, thickened, darkened and refractive. Conidia fusoid-ellipsoid, pale brown, smooth, prominently guttulate, 0–1-septate, hila somewhat darkened and refractive, in short (1–2) unbranched chains (adapted from Crous et al. 2018).

Type species: Pseudoanungitea syzygii (Crous, W.B. Kendr. & M.J. Wingf.) Crous

Notes: Pseudoanungitea is characterised by branched, septate, brown mycelium, subcylindrical, brown conidiophores, subcylindrical to clavate conidiogenous cells, and fusoid-ellipsoid, pale brown conidia. Pseudoanungitea differs from Anungitea in having terminal and intercalary conidiogenous cells, and refractive, thickened scars that give rise to short conidial chains with somewhat darkened and refractive hila. Pseudoanungitea is currently a distinct and well-supported genus in Venturiaceae. Molecular markers available for Pseudoanungitea are ITS, LSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
