Speiropsis
Speiropsis Tubaki, J. Hattoribot. Lab. 20: 171 (1958)
Index Fungorum number: IF 9965; Facesoffungi number: FoF 06558; 8 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 2 species with molecular data.
Saprobic on dead leaves. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, simple, straight or flexuous, 4-7 septate, solitary, smooth, brown. Conidiogenous cells polyblastic, determinate, discrete, cylindrical, denticles not evident, smooth, light brown. Conidia catenate connected by narrow isthmi with 4-8 cells, forming branched chains, cylindrical to cuneiform, smooth, pale to mid-brown (Adapted from Barbosa and Gusmao 2005).
Type species: Speiropsis pedatospora Tubaki
Notes: Speiropsis was introduced by Tubaki (1958) with S. pedatospora as type species. Speiropsis is characterized by erect, simple, straight, septate, mononematous or, in a few species, aggregated in fascicles or synnematous to sporodochial conidiophores with discrete, denticulate, polyblastic conidiogenous cells and catenate conidia in branched or unbranched chains connected by narrow isthmi. A synopsis with morphological features and geographical distribution of the described Speiropsis species is given by Barbosa and Gusmao (2005).
