Endophytic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomatal structures superficial or immersed in culture media, pseudothecial-like, unilocular, globose to subglobose, up to 188 μm diam., gregarious or solitary, pale brown to brown at maturity, minutely papillate with ostiole, smooth. Chlamydospores multiseptate, dictyochlamydospore-like, globose to subglobose, up to 26 μm diameter. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Bezerra et al. 2017).

Type species: Xiliomyces brasiliensis J.D.P. Bezerra, C.M. Souza-Motta & Crous

Notes: Xiliomyces lacks well-defined sexual and asexual structures and is morphologically incomplete. Xiliomyces can be identified based on DNA sequence data. Molecular markers available for Xiliomyces are ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF-1.
