Dictyomeridium

Dictyomeridium Aptroot, M.P. Nelsen & Lücking, in Lücking et al., Lichenologist 48: 756 (2016).

Index Fungorum number: IF 816873; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08796, 7 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Parasitic or saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Thallus not corticate. Ascomata single or a few aggregates, roughly conical to pyriform, not in pseudostroma. Ostioles eccentric. Hamathecium hyaline, clear. Asci with 2–8 ascospores. Ascospores muriform, hyaline, smooth, often IKI+ violet. Pycnidia sometimes present. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Aptroot & Lucking 2016).

Type species: Dictyomeridium proponens (Nyl.) Aptroot, M.P. Nelsen & Lücking

Notes: Dictyomeridium was introduced by Aptroot et al. in Lücking et al. (2016) with D. proponens as type species. Dictyomeridium is characterised by single ascomata, eccentric ostiole, 8-spored asci and muriform ascospores. In the phylogenetic analysis of Lücking et al. (2016), Dictyomeridium forms a distinct lineage, as a split-off from Polymeridium with seven muriform species that were previously assigned to Polymeridium. The type species of Dictyomeridium, D. proponens was previously known under different names in the genus Campylothelium. Dictyomeridium is a distinct and well-resolved genus in Trypetheliaceae. Molecular markers available for Dictyomeridium are LSU and mtSSU.
