Strigula mediterranea
Strigula mediterranea Etayo, Lichenologist 25(3): 258 (1993).
Index Fungorum number: IF 357604; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12005, Fig. 1
Description:
Thallus endophleodic, grey or light brown, thin, more or less continuous. Photobiont cells, apparently belonging to Trentepohlia. Sexual morph: Ascomata 190–205 μm diam., 165–175 μm, perithecioid, black, conical, dimidiate, surrounded by a thick hemispherical, carbonaceous involucrellum. Paraphyses 0.1–0.5 μm simple and thread-like trabeculate pseudoparaphyses, seldom slightly branching. Asci 75–80 × 10.0–10.9 μm (x̄ = 77.2 × 10.5 µm, n = 10), bitunicate, cylindrical to clavate, 8-spored. Ascospores 22.5–23 × 3.5–4.5 μm (x̄ = 22.8 × 4.0 µm, n = 10), biseriate, fusiform, uniseptate, hyaline, easily breakable at the septum with sharp ends. Asexual morph: Conidiomata 117.8–135 μm diam., 85–130 μm, similar to the perithecia but smaller in size, black, carbonaceous wall at the upper part. Microconidia not observed. Macroconidia 8.7–10.3 × 2.7–3.5 μm (x̄ = 9.4 × 3.4 µm, n = 10), 1-septate, cylindrical to ellipsoid often with a median constriction, hyaline. Chemistry: Not studied.
Material examined: France, Provence, Var, Meounes-les-Montrieux, mt. Siou-Blanc, aig-de Valbelle, 500 m NN, on bark of living stem of Quercus ilex (Fagaceae), 4 September 1992, Bricaud and Calude Roux (BR5030082577775).

Importance and distribution
There are 102 Strigula epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Arthopyrenia, Dennisiella, Geisleria, Gyalideopsis, Mazosia and Swinscowia. Strigula comprises 30 species known on a wide range of plants on leaves of Buxus sempervirens (Buxaceae), trunk of dead Populus alba (Salicaceae), limestone outcrop. Strigula is reported from Asia (China, Japan, South Korea), Europe (France), Oceania (Australia, New Zealand) and South America (Costa Rica).
