Flagellostrigula

Flagellostrigula Lücking, S.H. Jiang & Sérus., in Hongsanan et al., Fungal Diversity: 10.1007/s13225-020-00462-6, [131] (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 836389; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08874, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Lichenized on bark in terrestrial, (sub-) tropical habitats. Thallus corticate, greenish. Photobiont Trentepohlia. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnidia common, prominent, hemispherical to wart-shaped, rather large (up to 0.8 mm diam.), covered by rather thick thalline layer. Conidia typically acrogenous, only macroconidia known; macroconidia uniseptate, broadly bacillar, with long and thin gelatinous appendage at one end only, hyaline (adapted from Hongsanan et al. 2020b).

Type species: Flagellostrigula laureriformis (Aptroot & Lücking) Lücking, S.H. Jiang & Sérus.

Notes: Flagellostrigula is characterised by pycnidia producing macroconidia having single, very long, name-giving flagelliform appendage at the proximal end almost 3–4 times as long as the conidia. The pycnidia are remarkably large and enclosed by a rather thick thalline layer. F. laureriformis does not produce perithecia and is easily identified by its corticolous habitat, bright white green thallus, and simpleuniseptate conidia. Flagellostrigula is a distinct genus in Strigulaceae.
