Tzeanania

Tzeanania H.A. Ariyaw., A.J.L. Phillips & Chuang, in Ariyawansa et al., MycoKeys 37: 8 (2018).

Index Fungorum number: IF 825567; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08385, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Developing on a fruiting body of Ophiocordyceps macroacicularis. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, partially or entirely immersed in the agar, solitary or aggregated, erumpent, globose. Conidiomatal wall of textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, hyaline, smooth-walled, ampulliform. Conidia hyaline, smooth- and thin-walled, cylindrical, guttulate. Chlamydospores not observed in culture (adapted from Ariyawansa et al. 2018).

Type species: Tzeanania taiwanensis H.A. Ariyaw., A.J.L. Phillips & Chuang

Notes: Phylogenetically, Tzeanania has close affinity with Shiraiaceae and Phaeosphaeriaceae. Tzeanania differs from Phaeosphaeria in having an erumpent, globose conidiomata, conidiomatal wall 3–5 layered, with cylindrical, aseptate, hyaline conidiogenous cells and cylindrical, hyaline, aseptate, guttulate, thin-walled conidia. Tzeanania differs from Shiraia in having aseptate conidiogenous cells and cylindrical, hyaline, aseptate, guttulate, thin-walled conidia (Hyde et al. 2013). Tzeanania is a distinct and well-supported genus in its own family Tzeananiaceae. Molecular markers available for Tzeanania are ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
