Importance and distribution
Falciformispora produces melanin which may be responsible for the causative agents of black-grain mycetoma (Lin et al. 2021). Falciformispora comprises five species. F. aquatica on decaying wood submerged in freshwater in Asia (Thailand), F. lignatilis on intertidal mangrove wood in North America (Mexico), F. senegalensis from a human in Africa (Senegal), F. tompkinsii from mycetoma of sapiens human in Africa (Mauritania) and F. uttaraditensis from submerged twigs in Asia (Thailand).
