Trichophoma

Trichophoma Magaña-Dueñas, Cano & Stchigel, in Crous et al., Persoonia 44: 445 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 833525; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11730, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, solitary, subglobose to pyriform, ostiolate, covered by brown to dark brown, septate, nodose setae. Conidioma wall of textura angularis, composed of brown to dark brown, flattened polygonal cells. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, hyaline, smooth walled, ampulliform. Conidia 0–1-septate, hyaline, guttulate, long cylindrical, with a narrowly flattened base and rounded at the end (adapted from Crous et al. 2020).

Type species: Trichophoma cylindrospora Magaña-Dueñas, Cano & Stchigel

Notes: Trichophoma is characterised by pycnidial, solitary, subglobose to pyriform, ostiolate conidiomata, phialidic, hyaline, smooth-walled, ampulliform conidiogenous cells and 0–1-septate, hyaline, guttulate conidia. Trichophoma is closely related to Forliomyces (Crous et al. 2020) but differs in having longer and narrower hyaline conidia while those of Forliomyces are shorter, broader and brown (Phukhamsakda et al. 2016). Trichophoma is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and well-defined genus in Sporormiaceae. Molecular markers available for Trichophoma include ITS, LSU, TEF-1 and RPB2.
