Xenoroussoella

Xenoroussoella Mapook & K.D. Hyde, in Mapook et al., Fungal Diversity 101: 93 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 557367; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07822, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on dead stems. Sexual morph: Ascomata immersed, solitary or scattered, appearing as orange spots, coriaceous, globose to subglobose, brown to dark brown. Ostiolar neck protruding. Peridium 2–4 layers, comprising hyaline to brown cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium composed of oblong to cylindrical, septate, branching pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, cylindric-clavate to clavate, straight or slightly curved, apically rounded, short pedicellate. Ascospores bi-seriate, initially hyaline, uniseptate when immature, becoming pale brown to dark brown at maturity, ellipsoid to obovoid, 3-septate, with irregular longitudinal striations, constricted at the central septum, straight or slightly curved, without gelatinous sheath. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Mapook et al. 2020).

Type species: Xenoroussoella triseptata Mapook & K.D. Hyde

Notes: Xenoroussoella forms a close lineage to Pseudoroussoella but differs morphologically in having smaller ascomata and asci, thin peridium, and larger bi-seriate ascospores (Mapook et al. 2020). Molecular markers available for Xenoroussoella include ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF-1.
