Pseudolophiotrema
Pseudolophiotrema A. Hashim. & Kaz. Tanaka, in Hashimoto et al., Persoonia 39: 70 (2017).
Index Fungorum number: IF 819254; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08351, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.
Saprobic on herbaceous plants. Sexual morph: Ascomata grouped, immersed, globose. Ostiolar neck crest-like, elongated, laterally compressed. Peridium composed of compressed, thin-walled, pale brown cells. Pseudoparaphyses numerous, septate, branched and anastomosed. Asci bitunicate, fissitunicate, cylindrical, 8-spored. Ascospores fusiform, uniseptate, hyaline, smooth. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Hashimoto et al. 2017).
Type species: Pseudolophiotrema elymicola A. Hashim. & Kaz. Tanaka
Notes: Pseudolophiotrema is characterised by immersed, globose ascomata, crest-like, elongated ostiolar neck, cylindrical, 8-spored asci and fusiform, uniseptate, hyaline ascospores. Pseudolophiotrema resembles Lophiotrema in having a crest-like ostiolar neck, a peridium of constant thickness, cylindrical asci with a short stipe, anduniseptate, hyaline ascospores surrounded by a gelatinous sheath. Pseudolophiotrema differs from Lophiotrema in having thinner peridium comprising compressed cells while Lophiotrema consist of thick wall peridium made up of rectangular cells (Holm & Holm 1988). Pseudolophiotrema is a distinct and well-defined genus in Pseudolophiotremataceae. Molecular markers available for Pseudolophiotrema are ITS, LSU, SSU, RPB2 and TEF-1.
