Subglobosporium

Subglobosporium Doilom & K.D. Hyde, in Doilom et al., Fungal Diversity: 10.1007/s13225-016-0368-7, [32] (2016).

Index Fungorum number: IF 551982; Facesoffungi number: FoF 01861, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on bark of dead and living T. grandis. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies on natural substrate, punctiform, superficial on outer and inner bark, in pits or cracks on outer bark, gregarious, scattered, black, globose to subglobose. Conidiophores unknown. Conidiogenous cells unknown. Conidia globose or subglobose to ellipsoidal, aseptate, black, becoming reddish when crushed, containing hyaline granular contents (adapted from Doilom et al. 2016).

Type species: Subglobosporium tectonae Doilom & K.D. Hyde

Notes: Subglobosporium is characterised by punctiform, superficial colonies in pits or cracks on bark, and globose or subglobose to ellipsoidal conidia containing hyaline granular contents. In the phylogenetic analysis of Doilom et al. (2016) based on LSU sequence data, S. tectonae formed a distinct lineage from other taxa in Dothideomycetes. Molecular markers available for Subglobosporium include ITS, LSU, SSU and RPB2.
