Importance and distribution

There are 70 Hysterographium epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Byssolophis, Gloniopsis, Graphyllium, Hysterium, Hysterobrevium, Oedohysterium, Ostreichnion, Ostreola, Purpurepithecium, Rhytidhysteron and Triblidium. Hysterographium has a wide host range such as Acer glabrum (Sapindaceae), Arbutus menziesii (Ericaceae), Arctostaphylos columbiana (Ericaceae), Betula pubescens subsp. czerepanovii (Betulaceae), Castanea pumila (Fagaceae), Ceanothus sp. (Rhamnaceae), Corylus avellana (Betulaceae), Escallonia serrata (Escalloniaceae), Fagus sp. (Fagaceae), Nothofagus alpina (Nothofagaceae), Quercus coccinea (Fagaceae), Salix babylonica (Salicaceae) and Vitis sp. (Vitaceae). Hysterographium is reported from Asia (Russia), Europe (Georgia Spain), North America (Canada, The United States) and South America (Argentina). A revision of Hysterographium is needed to provide a stable taxonomy.
