Saprobic on leaves. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata solitary, erumpent, globose, dark brown with central ostiole, exuding a white conidial mass; wall of 3–8 layers of brown textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells lining the inner cavity, hyaline, smooth, ampulliform to doliiform or subcylindrical, phialidic with periclinal thickening or tightly aggregated, percurrent proliferations. Conidia solitary, hyaline, smooth, guttulate, aseptate, subcylindrical with obtuse ends, straight (Adapted from Crous et al. 2017).
Type species: Perthomyces podocarpi Crous
Notes: Perthomyces was introduced by Crous et al. (2017) with P. podocarpi as type species. Perthomyces is characterized by dark brown solitary condiomata, hyaline, smooth, ampulliform to doliiform conidiogenous cells and hyaline aseptate conidia. The taxonomic placement of Perthomyces is uncertain and is currently in Pleosporales genera incertae sedis. More taxa are required to determine the correct position of Perthomyces.
