Importance and distribution
Ostropella comprises nine species known on bark of Chosenia arbutifolia (Salicaceae), dead Coffea canephora (Rubiaceae), well-rotted log and on wood in Africa (Ivory Coast), Asia (Russia (Primorye)), Europe (French Guiana, Italy) and North America (Caribbean (Cuba), the United States). Ostropella levis and O. pachythele has been transferred to Xenolophium while O. vicina has been transferred to Lophiostoma.
