Importance and role

Importance of genus to ecosystem

Species of Isthmosporella are saprobic and helps in decomposition of organic matter in the ecosystem.

Industrial relevance and applications

The industrial applications of Isthmosporella have not been reported.

Quarantine significance

No disease has been reported from Isthmosporella.

Biochemical importance of the genus, chemical diversity or applications

The chemical diversity of Isthmosporella has not been investigated.

Diversity of the genus

Isthmosporella comprises only one species known on decorticated wood submerged in fresh water in New York. Isthmosporella may comprise many more species that remain to be described. Understudied hosts and regions must be sampled in an attempt to discover more species of Isthmosporella.
