Dangeardiella macrospora

Dangeardiella macrospora (J. Schröt.) Sacc. & P. Syd., Syll. fung. (Abellini) 14(2): 683 (1899).

Description: see Thambugala et al. (2014).

Material considered: see Thambugala et al. (2014).

Fig. 1 Dangeardiella macrospora (S-F215985, modified from Fig. 5 in Thambugala et al. 2015). a Herbarium label and specimen. b Appearance of ascomata on host substrate. c Section through ascomata. d Ostiole. e Peridium. f Pseudoparaphyses. g, h Asci. i, j Ascospores. Scale bars: b = 2000 μm, c = 100 μm, d, g, h = 50 μm, e, f, i, j = 20 μm.

Importance and distribution

Dangeardiella comprises two species. Dangeardiella fusiformis is reported on dead petioles of Dryopteris filix-mas (Dryopteridaceae) in Europe (Switzerland). Information regarding the host and geographical distribution is lacking for the second and type species, D. macrospora. The material observed by Thambugala et al. (2014) is from Europe (Sweden) on dead stalk of Athyrium alpestre (Athyriaceae).
