Saprobic in mangrove habitat. Sexual morph: Ascomata black, solitary, scattered, immersed to erumpent, with a short ostiolar neck. Ostiole central, periphysate. Peridium composed cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium numerous, pseudoparaphyses, embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, cylindrical and slightly curved, long pedicellate, apical rounded with an ocular chamber. Ascospores overlapping to biseriate or triseriate. Hyaline to brown, fusiform, with acute or narrowly pointed ending cells, 1-(rarely 3) septate, constricted at central septum, guttulate, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined.


Type species: Acuminatispora palmarum S.N. Zhang, K.D. Hyde & J.K. Liu


Notes: The genus accommodates a single species Acuminatispora palmarum, which was found from Thai mangroves and taxonomically placed in Pleosporales incertae sedis (Zhang et al. 2018).
