Saprobic in mangrove habitat. Sexual morph: Ascomata black, solitary, scattered, immersed to erumpent, with a short ostiolar neck. Ostiole central, periphysate. Peridium composed cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium numerous, pseudoparaphyses, embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, cylindrical and slightly curved, long pedicellate, apical rounded with an ocular chamber. Ascospores overlapping to biseriate or triseriate. Type species: Acuminatispora palmarum S.N. Zhang, K.D. Hyde & J.K. Liu
Notes: Acuminatispora is characterised by black, solitary, scattered, ascomata, periphysate central ostiole, bitunicate, cylindrical and slightly curved, long pedicellate asci and hyaline to brown, fusiform,1(−3)-septate ascospores. The taxonomic placement of Acuminatispora is uncertain and is currently placed in Pleosporales genera incertae sedis. Molecular markers available for Acuminatispora are ITS, LSU, SSU, RPB2 and TEF-1. More collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Acuminatispora.
