Pseudoyuconia

Pseudoyuconia Lar. N. Vassiljeva, Nov. sist. Niz. Rast. 20: 71 (1983).

Index Fungorum number: IF 25842; Facesoffungi number: FoF 00537, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on dead wood. Sexual morph: Ascomata semi-immersed to superficial, globose to subglobose. Ostiole central when mature, ostiolar canal filled with periphyses. Peridium comprising of thick-walled cell, forming a textura angularis. Hamathecium comprising hyaline, cellular, septate pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, broadly cylindrical or clavate to obovoid, with a minute pedicel, apically rounded end, with an ocular chamber. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal, pale brown to light brown, 2-septate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Ariyawansa et al. 2015).

Type species: Pseudoyuconia thalictri (G. Winter) Lar. N. Vassiljeva

Notes: Pseudoyuconia is characterised by semi-immersed to superficial, globose to subglobose ascomata, broadly cylindrical or clavate to obovoid asci, and broadly ellipsoidal, pale brown to light brown, 2-septate ascospores. The asexual morph is unknown. Ariyawansa et al. (2015) re-studied the specimen of P. thalictri collected by Vasilyeva (VLA P/187) and accommodated Pseudoyuconia in Pleosporaceae based on the globose to subglobose ascomata with central ostiole filled with periphyses, and peridium comprising cells of textura angularis. Pseudoyuconi is a distinct genus in Pleosporaceae but molecular data is needed to confirm this taxonomic placement.
