Xenophoma

Xenophoma Crous & Trakun., in Trakunyingcharoen et al., IMA Fungus 5(2): 404 (2014).

Index Fungorum number: IF 810835; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08343, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Parasitic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata uni- to multilocular, irregular to cauliflower-shaped. Paraphyses absent. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells, hyaline, ampulliform, monophialidic. Conidia solitary, hyaline, smooth, thin-walled, guttulate, subspherical to ellipsoid (adapted from Trakunyingcharoen et al. 2021).

Type species: Xenophoma puncteliae (Diederich & Lawrey) Crous & Trakun.

Notes: Xenophoma is characterised by uni- to multilocular conidiomata, and solitary, hyaline, smooth, thin-walled conidia. Xenophoma resembles Phoma but can be differentiated based on the cauliflower-shaped, uni- to multilocular conidiomata, and subspherical to ellipsoid conidia. Xenophoma is a distinct and well-defined genus in Phaeosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Xenophoma are ITS, LSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
