Tintelnotia

Tintelnotia S.A. Ahmed, Hofmüller, Seibold & de Hoog, in Ahmed et al., Mycoses 60 (4): 247 (2016).

Index Fungorum number: IF 816793; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08339, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.

Pathogenic in human. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnidia initially hyaline transparent or brick brown becoming dark brown to black with age, obclavate, ellipsoidal or obpyriform-flask shaped, glabrous or occasionally pilose, with a wide ostiolum. Conidia 1-celled, hyaline or pale brown to pinkish, smooth-walled, guttulate, produced on short phialides lining the pycnidial cavity (adapted from Ahmed et al. 2016).

Type species: Tintelnotia opuntiae (Boerema, Gruyter & Noordel.) S.A. Ahmed & de Hoog

Notes: Tintelnotia is characterised by hyaline transparent or brick brown pycnidia and 1-celled, hyaline or pale brown to pinkish, smooth-walled, guttulate conidia. Tintelnotia resembles Phoma in forming pycnidia with one celled conidia but is phylogenetically distinct. In the phylogenetic analysis of Ahmed et al. (2017) based on ITS, LSU and SSU sequences, Tintelnotia formed a distinct lineage in Phaeosphaeriaceae. Tintelnotia is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Phaeosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Tintelnotia are ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
