Phaeoseptoriella Crous, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 3: 102 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 829332; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08338, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Associated with leaf spots. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata solitary, globose, brown with central ostiole. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells lining the inner cavity. Conidiogenous cells ampulliform to doliiform, pale brown, smooth, proliferating percurrently at apex. Conidia solitary, pale brown, finely roughened, straight to slightly curved, fusoid-ellipsoid, septate, apex subobtuse, base truncate (adapted from Crous et al. 2019).

Type species: Phaeoseptoriella zeae Crous

Notes: Phaeoseptoriella is characterised by globose, brown conidiomata, ampulliform to doliiform conidiogenous cells, and fusoid-ellipsoid conidia. Phaeoseptoriella is accommodated in Phaeosphaeriaceae based on morphology and phylogeny. Molecular markers available include ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, TEF-1 and RPB2.
