Brunneomurispora Phookamsak, Wanas. & K.D. Hyde, in Phookamsak et al., Fungal Diversity: 10.1007/s13225-019-00421-w, [51] (2019).
Index Fungorum number: IF 556165; Facesoffungi number: FoF 05699, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.
Saprobic on Lonicera maackii. Sexual morph: Ascomata scattered, solitary or in groups, semi-immersed to erumpent, globose to subglobose, or irregular in shape, uniloculate, glabrous, ostiolate, papillate. Peridium slightly thick, composed of several layers, of small, flattened to broad, dark brown, pseudoparenchymatous cells of textura angularis to textura prismatica. Hamathecium composed of numerous, broad, filamentous, septate, anastomosed pseudoparaphyses, embedded in a hyaline gelatinous matrix. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, broadly cylindrical to cylindric-clavate, or clavate, short pedicellate, apically rounded, with inconspicuous ocular chamber. Ascospores overlapping 1–2-seriate, dark brown, muriform, fusiform to ellipsoidal, asymmetrical, slightly larger in the upper part, constricted at the central septum, smoothwalled, lacking mucilaginous sheath. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Phookamsak et al. 2019).
Type species: Brunneomurispora lonicerae Phookamsak, Konta, Wanas. & K.D. Hyde
Notes: Brunneomurispora is characterised by globose to subglobose ascomata, peridium comprising cells of textura angularis to textura prismatica, cylindrical to cylindric-clavate asci and dark brown, muriform, fusiform to ellipsoidal ascospores. Brunneomurispora is a distinct and well-supported genus in Phaeosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Brunneomurispora include ITS, LSU, SSU, TEF-1 and RPB2.
