Banksiophoma Crous, in Crous et al., Persoonia 38: 255 (2017).

Index Fungorum number: IF 820932; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08329, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic or pathogenic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, brown, globose, with central ostiole, somewhat aggregated with a brown stroma on PNA; wall of 3–6 layers of brown textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells or with a supporting cell lining the inner cavity, hyaline, smooth, sub cylindrical to ampulliform; proliferating percurrently at apex. Conidia solitary, hyaline, smooth, guttulate, aseptate, ellipsoid to globose or sub globose (Adapted from Crous et al. 2017).

Type species: Banksiophoma australiensis Crous

Notes: Banksiophoma was introduced by Crous et al. (2017) with B. australiensis as type species. Banksiophoma is characterized by brown, globose conidiomata, hyaline sub cylindrical to ampulliform conidiogenous cells and ellipsoid to globose or sub globose conidia. Banksiophoma is a distinct genus in Phaeosphaeriaceae based on both morphology and phylogeny.
