Neomedicopsis Crous & Akulov, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 3: 95 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 829321; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08314, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on twig. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, globose, erumpent with central ostiole; wall of 6–12 layers of brown textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells, hyaline, smooth, ampulliform with long cylindrical neck, proliferating percurrently. Conidia solitary, globose to subglobose, initially pale brown, becoming dark brown, thick-walled, guttulate, granular, apex obtuse, base truncate (adapted from Crous et al. 2019).

Type species: Neomedicopsis prunicola Crous & Akulov

Notes: Neomedicopsis is characterized by pycnidial conidiomata, ampulliform conidiophores with long cylindrical neck, proliferating percurrently, globose to subglobose conidia. Neomedicopsis resembles Medicopsis in having phoma-like morphology but is phylogenetically distinct. Neomedicopsis is also similar to Lasmeniella but differs in lacking multilocular conidiomata.  Molecular markers available for Neomedicopsis are ITS, LSU and RPB2.
