Tumularia tuberculata
Tumularia Descals & Marvanová, in Marvanová & Descals, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 89(4): 506 (1987).
Index Fungorum number: IF 11216; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08303, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.
Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colony dark, hyphae hyaline to dark. Conidiophores single, apical or lateral, semi macronematous, simple or sparsely branched, hyaline. Conidiogenous cells single, apical, integrated, percurrent or sympodial. Conidia single, apical, fusoid to clavate, hyaline to fuscous, 1–few-septate; one cell larger, central or apical, often protuberate; scar truncate to convex, Secession schizolytic (adapted from description of Monotosporella tuberculata in Gönczöl 1976).
Type species: Tumularia tuberculata (J. Gönczöl) Descals & Marvanová
Notes: Tumularia is characterised by hyaline to dark hyphae, semi macronematous, simple or sparsely branched hyaline conidiophores, percurrent or sympodial conidiogenous cells, and single, apical, fusoid to clavate, hyaline conidia. Tumularia is a hyphomycetous genus and the sexual morph is unknown. Hyde et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2018) treated this genus in Lophiostomataceae. Tumularia tuberculata was previously known as Monotosporella tuberculata but not congeneric with Monotosporella as the latter is dematiaceous, with brown macronematous conidiophores and brown conidia without protuberances. Hongsanan et al. (2020a) showed that this genus belongs to Melanommataceae based on phylogenetic analyses. Tumularia is currently treated as a distinct genus in Melanommataceae but more collections are needed to confirm this placement. Molecular markers available for Tumularia are ITS, LSU, SSU, Actin, BTUB and TEF-1.
