Melanocamarosporium

Melanocamarosporium Wijayaw., Camporesi, Bhat & K.D. Hyde, in Wijayawardene et al., Fungal Diversity: 10.1007/s13225-016-0360-2, [160] (2016)/

Index Fungorum number: IF 551780; Facesoffungi number: FoF 01522, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on Galium sp. (Rubiaceae). Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, solitary to gregarious, subepidermal, erumpent at maturity, dark brown to black, with a papillate ostiole. Conidiomata wall multi-layered, outer layer composed of thick-walled, brown cells of textura angularis, inner layer thin, with thick-walled, hyaline cells of textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells enteroblastic, phialidic, with periclinal thickenings, long, discrete, determinate, hyaline to subhyaline, smooth. Conidia oblong to ellipsoid, truncate at base, obtuse at apex, straight, muriform, with 2–4 transverse septa and 2–4 longitudinal septa, pale brown to medium brown, continuous, smooth-walled (adapted from Wijayawardene et al. 2016).

Type species: Melanocamarosporium galiicola Wijayaw., Camporesi, D.J. Bhat & K.D. Hyde

Notes: Melanocamarosporium was introduced by Wijayawardene et al. (2016) with M. galiicola as type species. Melanocamarosporium is characterised by pycnidial, solitary to gregarious, subepidermal conidiomata, enteroblastic, phialidic conidiogenous cells with periclinal thickenings and oblong to ellipsoid conidia truncate at the base. Melanocamarosporium resembles Camarosporium sensu stricto in having straight, muriform, with 2–4 transverse septa and 2–4 longitudinal septa, pale brown to medium brown conidia however is phylogenetically distinct. Melanocamarosporium is a distinct genus in Melanommataceae. DNA sequence data are not available in GenBank.
