Pathogenic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies on MEA restricted, velvety, grey green; reverse dark grey to black. Colonies on OA woolly, dark grey to olivaceous. Pycnidia observed after 8 weeks of incubation on OA, black, solitary, obpyriform with long neck. Conidiophores ampulliform hyaline, phialidic. Conidia hyaline, unicellular, subspherical to ellipsoidal. No assimilation of xylose; sensitive to cycloheximide (adapted from Ahmed et al. 2014).
Type species: Pseudochaetosphaeronema larense (Borelli & R. Zamora) Punith.
Notes: Pseudochaetosphaeronema is characterised by solitary, obpyriform pycnidia with long neck, ampulliform hyaline, phialidic conidiophores and hyaline, unicellular, subspherical to ellipsoidal conidia. The sexual morph of Pseudochaetosphaeronema is unknown. Pseudochaetosphaeronema is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Macrodiplodiopsidaceae. Molecular markers available for Pseudochaetosphaeronema are ITS, LSU, SSU, RPB2 and TEF1.
