Parapaucispora
Parapaucispora A. Hashim., K. Hiray. & Kaz. Tanaka, in Hashimoto et al., Stud. Mycol. 90: 188 (2018).
Index Fungorum number: IF 815297; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08280, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.
Saprobic on dead wood. Sexual morph: Ascomata immersed, subglobose to ellipsoidal, black, with a slit-like ostiole. Peridium in longitudinal section, thick at sides, composed of 3–5 layers of angular, hyaline to brown. Hamathecium comprising cellular pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, clavate, fissitunicate, pedicellate, with an ocular chamber. Ascospores 1–2-seriate, fusiform, hyaline, with the primary septum mostly sub median, the cell above the septum usually broader than the lower one, smooth walled, with thin mucilaginous appendages. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Li et al. 2016).
Type species: Parapaucispora pseudoarmatispora (Hay. Takah., K. Hiray. & Kaz. Tanaka) A. Hashim., K. Hiray. & Kaz. Tanaka
Notes: Parapaucispora is characterised by subglobose to ellipsoidal, black ascomata with a slit-like ostiole, clavate, fissitunicate, pedicellate asci and fusiform, hyaline ascospores. Parapaucispora differs from Paucispora in having a single-zoned peridium that is broader at the sides and thinner at the base and the ascomata lacks a clypeus near the ostiolar neck. Parapaucispora is a distinct genus in Lophiostomataceae based on evidence from both morphology and multigene phylogenetic analysis of combined LSU, SSU, ITS and TEF1 sequence data. Molecular markers available for Parapaucispora are ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF-1.
