Ochraceocephala

Ochraceocephala Voglmayr & Aiello, in Aiello et al., MycoKeys 66: 12 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 833933; Facesoffungi number: FoF 09305, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Pathogenic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiophores erect, variable in shape and branching, from unbranched, loosely to densely branched up to several times; branching commonly irregularly verticillate. Phialides arising singly or in irregular whorls, cylindrical, lageniform or ampulliform, producing basipetal conidial chains. Conidia in chains, unicellular, thick-walled, forming ochraceous capitula (adapted from Aiello et al. 2020).

Type species: Ochraceocephala foeniculi Voglmayr & Aiello

Notes: Ochraceocephala is characterised by erect conidiophores variable in shape, cylindrical, lageniform or ampulliform phialides and unicellular, thick-walled conidia. Ochraceocephala is unique in producing ochraceous conidial capitula. Ochraceocephala is phylogenetically close to Plenodomus but differs morphologically in that the latter genus has pycnidial phoma-like asexual morphs. Ochraceocephala is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Leptosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Ochraceocephala include LSU, SSU, ITS, RPB2, TEF-1 and BTUB.
