Tingoldiago

Tingoldiago K. Hiray. & Kaz. Tanaka, in Hirayama et al., Mycologia 102(3): 740 (2010).

Index Fungorum number: IF 515193; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08262, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata depressed globose to conical, sometimes mammiform, with a flattened base, scattered, immersed to erumpent, with a rounded ostiole. Peridium composed of small hyaline to brown cells. Pseudoparaphyses numerous, septate, immersed in gel matrix. Asci fissitunicate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, with or without a shallow apical chamber, 8-spored. Ascospores clavate, with a median primary septum, hyaline, smooth, usually with mucilaginous sheath. Senescent ascospores three-septate, pale brown. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Hirayama et al. 2010).

Type species: Tingoldiago graminicola K. Hiray. & Kaz. Tanaka

Notes: Tingoldiago is characterised by depressed globose to conical ascomata, numerous, septate pseudoparaphyses, fissitunicate, cylindrical asci, and clavate ascospores with a median primary septum and usually with a mucilaginous sheath. Tingoldiago resembles Lindgomyces in having hyaline to pale brown ascospores with a mucilaginous sheath but differs in that the former occurs on graminicolous substrate and has depressed globose to mammiform ascomata with a wedge of palisad. Tingoldiago is a distinct and well-defined genus in Lentitheciaceae. Molecular markers available for Tingoldiago are ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF-1.
