Importance and distribution
Quarantine significance
Mycocentrospora acerina causes post-harvest disease named "liquorice rot" in carrots (Louarn et al. 2012). Zhao et al. (2021) listed Mycocentrospora in the quarantine list for China.
There are 21 Mycocentrospora epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Anguillospora, Phaeomycocentrospora, Pseudocercospora and Pseudocercosporella. Mycocentrospora comprises 12 species known on wide range of plants such as Acer sp. (Sapindaceae), Anethum sp. (Apiaceae), Apium sp. (Apiaceae), Aquilegia sp. (Ranunculaceae), Asclepias tuberosa (Apocynaceae), Campanula medium (Campanulaceae), Centaurea cyanus (Asteraceae), Coriandrum sp. (Apiaceae), Daucus sp. (Apiaceae), Impatiens parviflora (Balsaminaceae), Lactuca sp. (Asteraceae), Liquidambar styraciflua (Altingiaceae), Lobelia hybrida (Campanulaceae), Omphalodes linifolia (Boraginaceae), Paeonia lactiflora (Paeoniaceae), Pastinaca sp. (Apiaceae) and Penstemon barbatus (Plantaginaceae). Mycocentrospora has wide geographical distribution including Asia (China, Japan), Europe (Poland, United Kingdom), North America (West Indies), Oceania (Australia, New Zealand), South America (Chile) and The United States (California, Illinois).
