Lineostroma

Lineostroma H.J. Swart, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 91: 464 (1988).

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata in necrotic spots in living leaves, adaxial; stromata linear with up to 15 locules in stromatic groups, intraepidermal at maturity breaking the upper leaf surface. Locules small, containing a small number of asci between paraphysoid threads, at maturity forming a small apical ostiole. Asci bitunicate, saccate with a small pedicel, 8-spored. Ascospores brown, 2-celled, constricted at the septum. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Swart 1988).

 Type species: Lineostroma banksiae (Cooke) H.J. Swart

Notes: Lineostroma is characterised by producing necrotic spots in living leaves, linear stromata, locules containing small number of asci between paraphysoid threads, saccate asci and brown, two-celled ascospores. The taxonomic placement of Lineostroma is doubtful. Sequence data is needed to confirm the placement of Lineostroma.
