Importance and distribution
Some taxa of Julella are probably lichenized while others are saprobic. There are 12 Julella epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Aptrootia, Halojulella, Massarina, Mycoglaena, Pleomassaria and Splanchnonema. Julella comprises six species known on wide range of plants such as Abies concolor (Pinaceae), Acer grandidentatum (Sapindaceae), Betula sp. (Betulaceae), Bursera microphylla (Burseraceae), Ceratonia sp. (Fabaceae), Croton sp. (Euphorbiaceae), Himatanthus sp. (Apocynaceae), Intsia sp. (Fabaceae), Jatropha sp. (Euphorbiaceae), Lonicera hispidula (Caprifoliaceae), Olea sp. (Oleaceae), Pinus halepensis (Pinaceae), Populus sp. (Salicaceae), Quercus sp. (Fagaceae) and Taxodium sp. (Cupressaceae). Julella is recorded from Asia (Russia), Europe (Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine), North America (Canada, Mexico), Oceania (Australia (New Guinea), Papua New Guinea), South America (Guyana), The United States (Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania) and many more. Future studies must attempt to collect more species of Julella as only one species has molecular data.
