Vandijckomycella

Vandijckomycella Hern. -Restr., L.W. Hou, L. Cai & Crous, in Hou et al., MycoKeys 65: 86 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 833205; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08849, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.

Saprobic in soil. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, superficial on the surface of the agar, solitary or confluent, globose to lageniform, covered by hyphal outgrowths, ostiolate, pycnidial wall pseudoparenchymatous, with 3–9 layers. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, hyaline, smooth, globose or ampulliform. Conidia hyaline, smooth- and thin-walled, aseptate, ovoid, oblong or ellipsoidal, with 2–4 polar guttules (adapted from Hou et al. 2020).

Type species: Vandijckomycella joseae Hern. -Restr., L.W. Hou, L. Cai & Crous

Notes: Vandijckomycella is characterised by pycnidial conidiomata, phialidic, hyaline, smooth, globose or ampulliform conidiogenous cells and hyaline, smooth- and thin-walled, aseptate, ovoid conidia. Vandijckomycella is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Didymellaceae. Molecular markers available for Vandijckomycella include ITS, LSU, BTUB and RPB2. BTUB and RPB2 have greater resolution for species level delineation (Hou et al. 2020).
